As stated before, the issue that inspired me to begin blogging was the issue of a nuclear North Korea, and a threat to Hawaii and, by extention, the entire United States. My friend, a very liberal young man, praised President Obama for his condemnation of North Korea and his stance against North Korea gaining nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, North Korea already has nuclear weapons, is speculated to be able to strike Hawaii in months, and is suspected of trading nuclear information and technology with Iran. Now, my friend insisted that if we took direct action against North Korea, we would spark anger from the international community. However, North Korea has clearly disobeyed UN Security Council restrictions and the six-party nuclear disarmament discussions, so all members of the UN should agree that responding to threats from this regime is perfectly justified. And although some may believe taking action against North Korea would endanger our standing with other nations, North Korea's strongest allies, China and Russia, have also condemned its actions. Not that we should care how Russia and China feel about us, since we have the right to defend ourselves and we shouldn't feel afraid of ANY other nation. We have already "condemned" North Korea, and now it is time to enforce our previous statements and actually DO SOMETHING before Kim Jung-il does something drastic.
